Walked up on 18 and a guy came up to me aggressively saying “You need to pick up your balls, get the hell out of here and never come back.” I was shocked at the way this 80 year old guy approached me with such anger and hostility. Apparently, you can’t hit multiple balls(2) into the green at this course which I was not aware of? Mind you I was the 1st tee time and a single with no one in front or behind me. I didn’t know there was such a rule at that course? Instead of a “polite” warning the guy literally yelled and screamed at me like drove on the green with a cart? Staff didn’t do anything to deescalate the issue so
I would highly not recommend this course because as a minority this felt more like a racial attack then a golf etiquette issue.

The Sun Prairie Golf Course is a solid course that is well-maintained and challenging.

This golf course was built in 1961 in the town of the same name, a suburb of Madison. The trees that line the course are mature and provide a scenic backdrop to a fairly challenging course. Many of the holes are uphill or have various elevation changes so even experienced golfers will have to think about each shot.

Sun Prairie offer four tees, allowing golfers of various ability levels to compete. The par-72 back tees play at 6,658 yards, although you can cut the distance by playing the angles on the many dogleg holes. One example is the 471-yard 14th hole, a par-5 with a sharp dogleg right. Play your second shot well and you could be putting for eagle.

The course is balanced with two par-5s and two par-3s on each set of nines. One of the more challenging holes of the course is the par-4 seventeenth hole that at 411 yards long, requires a powerful tee shot and approach to the green.

The greens are very well maintained and tend to play a little slow so the breaks are noticeable. Really, all aspects of the course are very well taken care of. The fairways are crisp and cut well, a nice contrast to the rough that is intentionally grown long for a challenge. Keep your tee shot on the fairway and you are in a good position to score well.

Sun Prairie features a putting green and driving range on site for extra work on your game. The staff is friendly and helpful and happy to help you find your way around. The food is quite good and there is a bar on site so be sure to stop by for a drink after your round.

Now for a couple of negatives. The clubhouse is a good walk from the parking lot which is a pain when you are carrying clubs. As far as the course goes, more signage is needed. Since it's an interesting layout, you can easily get turned around going from hole to hole.

Give Sun Prairie a try next you are in the Madison area. You won't be disappointed.

Great Course with beautiful Old Growth Trees. Greens are well maintained and challenging. The fairways are shorter grass than I'm used to yet this is one of my favorite Courses in the USA. This year they have much longer grass in the ruff to reward you for being in the fairway. Golfing here here has made me better Golfer! Front 9 last Thursday was 44 by playing smart!

For the price, I don’t think so. Greens seem malnourished, many identical par 4s, and an unfriendly vibe. Would recommend looking elsewhere if you want $50 worth of golf.

Course is a good mature layout. Generally in good to very good condition. Arguably the best piece of property for any public course in Madison metro area.

I agree with the above comment - it is one of the worst maintained courses that I've ever seen. The owner and operators of the course also seem to feel that they are running Whistling Straits instead of an over-priced muni. They run their course as if they are on a major power trip that leaves no room for golfers to have fun. Stay away at all costs - there are much better options within a few minutes of this course that offer more fun, value and challenge.
