I played the course on 11/16/10 under overcast skies and with low 50's temps. I arrived at the course at 9:30 a.m. to find it deserted. This wasn't really a surprise, as the season is just about over and alot of courses are running on bankers hours. The sign on the pro-shop window said to leave the $$ in the mail slot and take a cart. I didn't find a key in any of the carts, so I opted to walk it (I bring my pushcart everywhere for just this reason). I could tell almost immediately that I was going to like this course. It has a very "old" or "classic" feel to it, with ancient trees lining many of the fairways. The greens were on the larger side, and full of subtle breaks. While putting on the first one, I remembered that this is a Robert Tallman design. It was then that I saw the parallels to his other courses (see Willowcreek in Big Flats, NY as one example). The front 9 felt somewhat narrow and of average length from the white tees. Mis-hits can cost you big, as you always seem to find yourself behind a tree (see Willowcreek again). The back 9 was more open and a bit longer. When I made the turn, I found a gentleman inside the pro-shop and squared up for the round. I was charged a paltry $10 to walk 18 holes...a GREAT deal by any standard. The course was in fine shape for the time of year and I couldn't think of anything to complain about. The design is pretty interesting and the setting quaint. Do yourself a favor and make the trip here for a round. You won't be disappointed.
