Was in terrible shape. New management is putting money into improvements.

This was one of my favorite course to play. I played a round there yesterday and course conditions were awful. The rough was way to high and covered in dead cut grass good luck finding your ball if it lands in the rough even by a tiny bit. Less than half the holes had signs on them and few that did were not right. No ball washing stations and hardly and trash cans out. This new management needs to get it together very disappointed. The only reason it got one star is because the greens were decent. Safe to say I will not be back anytime soon

What was once a nice municipal golf course has gone downhill fast because of neglect.

The Amherst Audubon Golf Course in Buffalo has been open for over 70 years and offers some interesting holes. The course is mostly wide open but the front nine has dog legs that allow for some creativity in your second shot.

Most golfers would agree that the back nine is the more challenging and fun to play. Water comes into play on several of the holes, including the 14th and 16th holes. There are some longer par-4s on the back nine that require a good drive to set up an easier second shot.

The course is par-71, 6635 yards. While the course has decent length, many of the holes are packed too tightly together so you are always watching for errant golf balls coming your way. This is especially true on the front nine where four holes run parallel with each other.

What makes the situation even more confusing is the lack of signage. Some tee signs are missing completely and others are hard to find. When you see four holes from the green you just putted out on, it's hard to know which to play next.

The fairways are dry and some have bald spots from the lack of proper watering. The greens have been aerated and are in much better shape than the fairways. The cart paths are also quite rugged.

Despite the issues on the course, the price is very affordable and the staff is always very friendly. Given the day, you can play a round of 18 holes with a cart for under $35.

The future of the Audubon Golf Course is up in the air, which is likely why the course has declined so rapidly. City officials have talked about moving the course to a different area of the city while other speculation is that the course will close altogether. A third possibility is that the just the back nine will be preserved and Audubon will become just a nine-hole golf club. As of now, the 2021 golf season should be a go.

Longtime Audubon golfers are hoping their beloved course can be saved and returned to the condition they remember.

A couple of the holes were being worked on... A little more pricey than it's worth, but it is a nice course for sure.
