This is one of the better public courses near the Triad. I have played the course three times and it has been great each time regarding experience with the staff and the course. I like to look at this as a hidden gem. We typically use hot deals but are worth the regular cost in my opinion. It has a lot of hills with varying fairway levels. Greens can be tricky to maneuver at times and must analyze each shot carefully as your normal club distances don't matter a majority of the time. The only issue is that there are a lot of retired individuals, so play can be slow at times. I don't mind as I enjoy just being on the golf course. But if you're impatient, schedule a tee time during slower times if you can.
Welcome to Thomasville, NC! My dad, from Huntsville, Al and future son-in-law from Charlotte and my 2 sons (beginners) went to play golf on Monday at Winding Creek. They were treated so RUDELY not only by the staff and rangers but also by some residents of Thomasville! They were teaching by sons (18 & 23) to play golf. The rangers approached them 4 times telling them they were to slow! The last time the ranger implied that they should leave now! They only played 12 holes, they were not offered any of their money back or ask to come back another time. The golf course was over booked also. Thomaville you want vistors, well you better learn how to treat vistors when they come to our area. I hope that you never want to teach your children to play golf because they will not be welcomed at Winding Creek! I'm ashamed that I recommended this course will never do that again!
Played this course yesterday. It is cheap and over played. The biggest problem is not the maitance crew, but the other golfers. Usually slow, do not repair their divits, and are high handy capppers. Greens were recently Aired and need a long time to get back up to par. Go if your not looking to spend a lot of money. Do not go if you are planning on letting your putting keep your score down. Greens are full of Sand, Dirt, holes, and old divits. Good practice facitilty though.
