Ok, I played Monday Dec 26th. I came up from Mooresville with some buddies of mine because it was so cheap. There are some really generous comments made on this site. I have never in my life putted on greens this bad. This course is not a good value for golfers because it's not golf. This course is not even playable. There is nothing that can be done to help these greens other than blowing them up. Don't waste your time or money.
I've played Twin Oaks probably 20-30 times within the past 9 years. I continue to say that the course has potential and with a new partner, hopefully more money can be put into the course and made to really stand out. The greens are finally starting to heal up after who-knows-what happened to them about three years ago. They are still sort of beat up, but in much better shape. The fairways are still spotty but they are challenging. I've never had a problem with the clubhouse, but I can't say they leave you smiling after leaving. For the price, like many have said, you can't beat it if you're an average golfer.
The clubhouse is clean, and has cool beverages and tables. The tees, rough, fairways, and greens were all cut nicely. Although several fairways appeared to have not been cut as frequently as they should have, as evidenced by the amount of clipping piled around. The greens need attention, every green had a mixture of grasses to a large extent. The sand traps were clean of grasses and groomed.
I have played a lot of "value" golf courses but this is the sorriest place that I have ever seen. There are literally 1/2" gaps in the sod on the greens. Where there are grass on the greens it is covered with weeds. There is dried up mud holes on some greens. Large clumps of cut grass left everywhere, the worst being around the edges of the greens, where they waited way too long to mow the grass. This course has a lot of potential but they need to invest some money to fix there course and hire someone who knows what the heck they are doing.
Course layout is difficult with some evil left handed doglegs and greens that have tricky approach shots. Many of the fairways have patches of clover that swallow balls left and right and leave no distinction between the fairway and rough. Almost every green has rather patchy sandy edges that could use some work. Course has gotten better in recent years and if they plant some real grass to defy the fairways a bit more and fixed the greens it has potential to be a good intermediate course to play on.
