Tanglewood Golf Club in North Carolina offers one of the most picturesque and well-designed Par 3 public courses that you’re likely to come across.

Tanglewood is actually a multi-course facility made up of the Reynolds course, the Championship course and the Par 3 course. The Championship is ranked as one of the top public courses in the country. All three courses were designed by famed course designer Robert Trent Jones, Jr.

This review is for the par 3 course. One of the most memorable features of this course is that the design and maintenance are truly at the level of a private course. The landscape of the course consists of gently rolling hills, large trees and perfectly shaped greenside bunkers.

Even though the course has high-end looks, there’s a very family friendly approach here. The Par 3 course welcomes golfers of all ages and abilities. Even the more advanced courses (Reynolds and Championship) have family tees.

There’s only one hole over 100 yards on the Par 3 course (and that’s from the longer of the two tee boxes.) even by par 3 standards, this is a very short course. All of the holes are between 50 and 120 yards. The par 3 course at Tanglewood is a great spot to practice chipping and to introduce a junior golfer to the great sport of golf.

There’s a nice clubhouse with a patio to enjoy after your round. Other amenities include a driving range, and a separate chipping green. There’s also a pro shop and the Champions Room Grill to enjoy. If you’re coming on a golf trip, you’ll also find the Manor Bed and Breakfast to complete your stay. The course is very reasonably priced at $11 on weekends, or a weekday rate of $10 for adults and $7 for juniors.

One other minor note, by any standard, this course has a very good website that actually has all of the information you’ll need in one place (a rarity in the golf world.) This is likely to be one of the nicest Par 3 courses you’ll ever have the pleasure of playing. A must see!
