Absolute state of the art golf course. Each hole provides a new challenge for me which I love! I'm 100% coming back in the summer time and next year!

The old saying "you get what you pay for" is the perfect description of the Leo J. Martin Golf Course.

This course is located just 20 minutes from Boston in the charming and historic town of Weston. Unfortunately, the Leo Martin Golf Course is a stark contrast from its surroundings.

The course was designed by Donald Ross, a well-known golf architect who has designed hundreds of courses across the U.S. and Canada. When you consider the thought and execution it took to build the course, it's a real shame as to what it has become.

The fairways are atrocious, with rocks, large bare dirt spots and lots of crabgrass. It is difficult to determine where the fairways end and the rough begins. The greens aren't much better, with rocks and bumps everywhere. Since the greens are so dried out, they are extremely fast.

The poor condition of the course is more than an annoyance. Your score will be affected by the neglected course so plan on shooting higher numbers than usual. The course is one of two state-run golf courses in the state of Massachusetts and somebody really should step in and make things right.

There are some positives to playing at the Leo Martin Golf Course. The layout is interesting and the open fairways allow you to take some risks off the tee. The back nine is tight and offers some fun challenges.

The par-72, 18-hole course is 6,320 yards from the back tees and offers four par-5 and four par-3 holes, two of each of the front and back nines.

One of the biggest draws of the course is the affordability. Play during the week at off times for as little as $35 with a cart. You won't find another deal like that in the Boston area. The course also has a driving range – some golfers prefer to just utilize the driving range as opposed to playing a round – where you can find a small bucket of 60 balls for just $7. The staff is friendly and accommodating.

Just know what you are in for when playing at the Leo Martin Golf Course. If you expectations are low, it can be a fun, laid-back round with friends that won't make a dent in your wallet.

Course is in fun to play, but is just in TERRIBLE shape. Fairways are often bare, rough is spotty and inconsistent, and greens are just plain awful. On many greens there are literally big sand patches! The layout is fun and a few par 4's are reachable from the tee, but the course is very short and relatively easy, other than the difficulty provided by the poor shape it's in.

Location (12 minutes from Boston), price ($30 to walk 18), and no tee times (first-come, first-served) will keep me coming back for screw around rounds, but this is not a place for serious golf.

Some fairways and tee boxes are in horrible shape. The 17th tee box is basically gravel. Greens are mostly good.

How on earth does this dog track end up in the top 100 for Golflink? Obviously a flawed system. One of the worst maintained courses I have ever played.
