Terrible experience. We were followed on the back 9 by 3 tractor mowers. One employee walked across our approach shot without even looking up for his own safety. We were not able to make the turn until two other foursomes teed off first, even though we we're only a twosome. The course is extremely flat. The traps are small pebbles, not sand. The clubhouse is basically a tent. There were no balls on the range available for warm ups. The course would be ok for $20. Anything more will leave you feeling robbed!
The original layout here was a PGA Tour course from the 60's thru the late 80's. The Firefighter's Pension Fund bought the course a few years back and the course was redone by Ron Garl; about 10 holes from the old course are similar to their original state, but much better with reference to grassing and drainage. The course tips out just over 7000 yards and is parkland golf with not much OB. The features of the course are several bunkers in the shapes of flames and old cypress trees carved into beautiful artwork. Garl also included a short game practice area, including a Scoring Vee where you hit shots to targets at every 20 yards. The master plan is to include a hotel and retirement condos on the property, so the area surrounding the course is a work in progress. The clubhouse is a double wide trailer for the moment (but not bad considering...) and the full clubhouse will be built as part of the community to come. As such, full amenities aren't available, but the staff there is experienced and will accommodate completely. The course has few forced carries and lays out pretty well for most golfers, so it's challenging but not overly difficult. As kind of parkland, the scenery is more golf course, so not bad. The course drains exceptionally well and this maintenance staff does a fine job. For folks from out of town, the round is pricey; for locals it's higher than some other courses in the area, but in honesty this course is better than most others in the area. It's only 10 minutes from downtown New Orleans, so it's easy to get to. Definitely a good course.
