First time playing this course and liked it a lot. It is a tough course for the sometime player but very enjoyable. Some greens and fairways were a little damaged and in rough shape. Wonderful holes played over the canal. The person on the desk was very friendly and offered some help about the course. Will be playing here again as we had fun and now know the course somewhat.
We loved the course. Some fun challenging holes with some hard greens to read. Would definitely golf again. Personal was very helpful.
January 2013I Highly Recommend you give Apollo Beach GC a try! A beautiful course with more bird and wildlife than I have ever seen on one course....Great challenging layout with enough T-box's to make it fair for everyone.... But the realreason to come back has to be the staff... Great people who treat you right and always make you feel welcome. - Paul "Chipper" Wood -June 2013I have been spreading the word to all the folks in Sun City how far this course has come in the past few years. It has come a long way and I know this is the best shape I've ever seen it in. Looks great, keep up the good work! - J. Clarkson -July 2013WOW! You have to get out here and play. Best greens within 500 miles. What a difference the past few years makes. I spoke with Lisa in the Pro shop regarding the great course conditions. The two new greens look great. The new planted fairways are coming back great. Not one bad patch on #11 (can you believe it). She told me that GM Tom Doozan and the maintenance crew are working diligently day to day, sun up to sun down to put their course back on the radar. Man. She isn't kidding. She also mentioned of after the fall out with the development with Mira Bay she said they are here to stay and the golf course conditions, members, guests and staff are top proirity. Lisa said she wants every talking about Apollo Beach Golf Club. I must say Lisa, you are well on your way. You have to buy their Club Membership IT IS the BEST DEAL AROUND. Come check out the course. - ShootingPar1964 -
didnt really enjoy this course, good layout but not very well maintained, dry spots all over the greens and fairways and not to mention the dreadful driving range.
I played this course recently, and was shocked to read the reviews afterwards. As everyone else mentioned, the RTJ course layout was excellent. It had an abundance of water, and some great views. It is a challenging little course that is really enjoyable to play. The course condition was not perfect. There wer a few place in fairways that needed some work and some St Augustine grass in the rough. But the greens were in above average shape for a public course in the area. They rolled very fast and true. There were only a couple bare spots in fairways. There were a couple greens with some work being done, but overall I would give the greens a 7/10. It is not perfect, but is certainly in good enough shape to be enjoyable. It sounds like it was in some rough shape the past few years. They are obviously putting in the work to turn the course around. If you enjoyed the layout in the past, it might be worth checking out again.
January 25, 2011 - the course is in deployable condition. Tee boxes, fairways and greens are in rough shape. Difficult finding grass to hit off of on the fairways. Little management/oversight on the course. Handicap players driving on the greens with their cart, player having his dog in the cart and the dog running around on the course and in bunkers. This course has a great layout but is in such terrible shape that it is not enjoyable to play it.
This is amazing course design by Robert Trent Jones Sr. But this course is the worst maintained course I have ever seen. Water on every hole makes it a challenge. But whoever is currently the owner and General Manager should be beaten almost to death for destroying such a great course layout. Robert Trent Jones is rolling over in his grave for sure.
